With six airbags, a 360-degree camera and flexible seating, the Triber is rewriting what budget family cars can offer.

Buying a seven-seater car in India has traditionally meant spending well above ₹10 lakh or settling for a basic, no-frills vehicle. That belief is now being challenged by the Renault Triber, which has quietly become the country’s most affordable 7-seater car. Starting at ₹5.76 lakh (ex-showroom), the Triber proves that space, safety and modern features do not always have to come with a premium price tag.

The Triber is positioned for families who want practicality without stretching their budgets. It competes directly with the Maruti Ertiga, but at a significantly lower entry price. While the Ertiga offers a stronger engine and more space, the Triber wins on affordability, safety equipment and urban usability.

Renault offers the Triber in seven variants, with prices ranging from ₹5.76 lakh to ₹8.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it the most accessible option for buyers looking for a three-row car in India. Its compact dimensions also make it easier to drive and park in crowded cities, unlike many larger MPVs and SUVs.

Under the hood, the Triber runs on a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 72hp and 96Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT automatic. While the engine is tuned more for efficiency than performance, it suits daily commuting and family travel. For buyers looking to reduce running costs, CNG retrofitment is available on manual variants, offering mileage of over 20 km/kg, making it one of the most economical 7-seaters in its segment.

Inside, Renault has refreshed the Triber’s cabin to make it feel more modern and comfortable. It now comes with black and beige upholstery, a redesigned instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Push-button start, wireless phone charging and smart storage spaces add to the convenience.

What truly sets the Triber apart is its focus on safety. It now offers six airbags as standard across all variants, a feature that even many premium cars in India still do not provide. Along with this, it gets a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and several other safety systems. In total, Renault claims the Triber comes with 21 standard safety features, making it one of the safest budget cars currently on sale.

Passenger comfort has also been given attention. The Triber offers rear AC vents for both the second and third rows, a feature rarely seen in this price range. The modular seating layout allows the third row to be removed entirely, turning the Triber into a spacious five-seater with a large boot. This flexibility makes it suitable both for large families and for those who need cargo space during the week.

On the outside, updates include new 15-inch alloy wheels, gloss black door handles and subtle styling enhancements that give it a more premium look without making it flashy.

However, the Triber is not without limitations. Its biggest drawback is its underpowered engine, which struggles when the car is fully loaded with passengers and luggage. The AMT gearbox is also known to be slow and not very smooth, especially in traffic. Interior quality, while improved, still feels basic in some areas. For long highway journeys with a full load, buyers may find it less comfortable compared to larger MPVs like the Ertiga.

Despite these compromises, the Triber’s value proposition remains strong. No other car in India offers a combination of seven seats, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, modern infotainment and low running costs at this price point. It is designed more for practical everyday use rather than power or luxury.

For first-time car buyers, growing families, or anyone looking for an affordable people-mover, the Renault Triber stands out as a smart and sensible option. It shows that safety and space do not have to be sacrificed just because the budget is tight.
