Alipurduar-Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express To Connect Northeast’s Gateway to Mumbai Metropolis
The Alipurduar-Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express will provide a crucial rail link between eastern India and the western coast, connecting the strategic border region of North Bengal with the Mumbai metropolitan region. Originating from Alipurduar, located close to the India-Bhutan international border, the service holds strategic importance by improving mobility from a sensitive border area while strengthening east-west national connectivity across multiple states.
The train will operate as a weekly service. The Alipurduar-Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express, will depart from Alipurduar at 4:45 AM (Thursday) and will arrive at Panvel at 5:30 PM (Saturday). The Panvel-Alipurduar Amrit Bharat Express will depart from Panvel at 11:50 AM (Monday) and will reach Alipurduar at 1:50 PM on Wednesday.
The route will benefit several districts across five states, including Alipurduar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal, Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Saran, Patna, Bhojpur and Buxar in Bihar, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Prayagraj and Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur and Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh, and Jalgaon, Nashik, Thane and Raigad in Maharashtra.
The route also connects several well-known tourist destinations. These include Darjeeling, famous for its tea gardens and Himalayan views, Vikramshila Mahavihara, an important ancient Buddhist learning centre, Mahabodhi Temple located nearby on the Bihar circuit, Triveni Sangam, one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage sites, Chitrakoot Dham, closely associated with the Ramayana and Trimbakeshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
By improving access to religious, cultural and heritage destinations, the train is expected to boost tourism, promote local handicrafts and hospitality services, and support small businesses along the route. Overall, the Alipurduar-Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express will act as a catalyst for regional economic growth while strengthening connectivity between border regions and major urban centres.
