Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026: All Government And Private Schools In PMC Limits To Remain Closed After 12 Noon On January 23
Pune, January 21, 2026: In view of the international cycling event Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026, the Pune District Administration has directed that all government and private schools within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits will remain open only till 12 noon on January 23, 2026, and will be closed thereafter.
According to an official communication issued by the District Collector’s Office, Pune, the decision has been taken to avoid inconvenience to students due to anticipated heavy traffic congestion during Stage 4 of the cycling tour. The event is scheduled to be held in Pune district from January 19 to January 23, 2026.
As per the letter received from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City, Stage 4 of the Pune Grand Challenge Tour will take place on January 23. The race will begin from Balewadi, pass through several areas of Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and conclude at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir. The cycling route will cover approximately 58 kilometres through the internal parts of Pune city, making traffic congestion across several areas highly likely.
Considering the large-scale traffic restrictions and possible disruption to daily movement, the administration has decided to partially close schools to ensure student safety and convenience. All government and private schools within PMC limits are instructed to function only till 12:00 pm on January 23 and remain closed post noon.
The order has been issued under the Disaster Management Act, and education officers of the Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Zilla Parishad have been instructed to inform all schools under their jurisdiction accordingly. Schools have also been asked to submit a compliance report to the District Administration.
The directive has been issued by District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Pune, Jitendra Dudi, with copies forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner (Disaster Management), Pune Division, and the Commissioner of Police, Pune City, for information and necessary coordination.
