Pune: HPC Clears Integrated AI-Based CCTV Surveillance Project for Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate
Pimpri-Chinchwad, January 26, 2026: In a major boost to technology-driven policing, the High-Powered Committee (HPC) of the Maharashtra government has approved an integrated, city-wide CCTV surveillance project for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. The approval was granted by the HPC chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Government of Maharashtra, and is aimed at strengthening law and order, crime prevention, traffic management, crowd control, and public safety in one of the state’s fastest-growing industrial and urban regions.
The project will deploy an advanced, AI-enabled surveillance system across the entire Pimpri-Chinchwad police jurisdiction, enabling real-time monitoring and data-driven policing. Officials said the initiative will play a key role in improving emergency response, disaster management, and enforcement of traffic and safety regulations.
In recent years, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have significantly expanded infrastructure to keep pace with rapid urbanisation and population growth. As part of this expansion, six new police stations have been established, along with the creation of posts for 10 Assistant Commissioners of Police, five Deputy Commissioners of Police, and one Additional Commissioner of Police, all of which have been filled with competent officers. Land has also been acquired for a new police commissionerate building, new police station buildings, a spacious police parade ground, a modern motor transport department, and other departmental offices.
The newly approved CCTV project forms a crucial part of this modernisation drive. Under the project, existing CCTV cameras installed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Mission and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be integrated into a single, centralised system. In addition, new cameras will be installed in key locations and uncovered areas to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Special surveillance will be implemented in major industrial hubs such as Chakan MIDC, Talegaon MIDC, and Bhosari MIDC, as well as in the Hinjewadi IT hub. Given the massive influx of devotees during festivals, palanquin processions, and religious events, a robust CCTV network will also be established in pilgrimage centres like Dehu and Alandi to enable effective crowd regulation and smooth traffic management.
The project will leverage advanced AI-based video analytics to assist in crime detection and investigation, enforcement of traffic rules, crowd management, and emergency response. An ultra-modern Integrated Command and Control Centre will be set up in the upcoming police commissionerate building, providing live feeds to all police zones, the traffic department, and police stations.
For effective implementation, a Project Implementation Committee (PIC) has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner. The committee includes senior officials from PCMC, PMRDA, the Smart City Mission, MIDC, and the police department.
Under the leadership of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaubey, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have consistently focused on infrastructure development and the adoption of advanced technology. Officials said the HPC’s approval of the CCTV surveillance project will significantly enhance citizens’ sense of security, strengthen public trust in the police, and contribute to building a safer and smarter Pimpri-Chinchwad city.
