Pune: Elderly Woman’s Gold Mangalsutra Stolen During Auto-Rickshaw Ride From Wanowrie To Salunke Vihar Road
Pune, February 4, 2026: An incident of theft was reported in Wanowrie where an elderly woman was allegedly robbed of her gold mangalsutra while travelling in an auto-rickshaw on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred around 6.45 pm between Jambhulkar Chowk and the nursery area on Salunkhe Vihar Road.
According to the information received, the elderly woman was travelling by auto-rickshaw from Hadapsar to Wanowrie. During the journey, a woman and three unidentified co-passengers allegedly distracted her and stole the gold mangalsutra from her neck without her noticing.
The stolen mangalsutra is estimated to be worth approximately ₹59,000. One of the accused is reported to be a woman. Wanowrie police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Further probe is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Kshirsagar.
Police have appealed to citizens, especially senior citizens, to remain alert while travelling in public transport and avoid wearing valuable jewellery during commutes.
