Pune: 11 Bangladeshi Women Detained in Anti-Prostitution Raid in Budhwar Peth, Police Warn Agents of Strict Action
Pune, Feb 18:
Pune Police carried out a major anti-prostitution raid in the Budhwar Peth area on Wednesday and detained 22 people, including 11 Bangladeshi women allegedly involved in sex work.
According to police officials, legal action has been initiated to deport the Bangladeshi women. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were brought into India using fake Aadhaar cards and forged documents. Police said strict action will also be taken against agents and brothel operators who helped them enter the country and forced them into prostitution.
The operation was conducted following specific intelligence inputs received by the police.
Earlier, on February 11, police had carried out a combing operation in the same area, during which around 700 people were questioned. At that time, only two Bangladeshi women were found. However, in the latest raid, police rescued four minor girls.
Police also confirmed that narcotic substances were seized during the operation. Further investigation is underway, and officials said more arrests cannot be ruled out.
