Pune, February 17, 2026: Kondhwa residents, particularly those living near NIBM Road, Parge Nagar, and Kausarbaugh, have long been struggling with severe traffic congestion in their neighborhoods. With the holy month of Ramzan approaching, locals fear that the situation will worsen significantly, as numerous temporary stalls selling food, clothes, and other items are expected to mushroom across the area. Residents have expressed concerns that the already heavy congestion, combined with increased noise and air pollution, will make daily life extremely challenging.

For months, citizens have repeatedly appealed to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take action against illegal encroachments that occupy public spaces, including footpaths and roadsides. The problems cited include roadside food carts using wooden tandoors throughout the day, gas cylinders placed on roads, and stalls blocking pedestrian pathways. These encroachments not only slow down vehicular movement but also pose safety risks to both pedestrians and drivers, particularly during busy hours.

While speaking to Pune Pulse Maya Devre, senior police inspector, Kondhwa Traffic division said, “The survey was done to appeal to people to follow the rules set by the PMC as well as traffic rules and regulations. Kondhwa sees massive participation by people during the holy month. Hence, in order to maintain discipline the survey was conducted today which was also supported by Kashif Sayyed, the newly elected corporator.”

Kashif Sayyed, corporator said that he shall be deploying 20 volunteers who will remain present throughout the month controlling traffic wherever required across the Ward 19. This is just a step to bring down the inconvenience causing the residents.

Responding to these concerns, officials from the Kondhwa Traffic Division, along with senior police personnel, conducted an on-site inspection to address the issues proactively. The team included Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 5 Rajlakshmi Shivankar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Namrata Desai, Senior Police Inspector Kumar Ghadge of Kondhwa Police Station, and Senior Police Inspector Maya Devre of the Kondhwa Traffic Division. During the visit, the officials engaged directly with shop owners and vendors, urging them to remove any encroachments and maintain a clear path for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The authorities emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules, maintaining public safety, and allowing unobstructed access on roads and footpaths. Shopkeepers were reminded that while their businesses are essential, they must not compromise the safety and convenience of the local residents. The police officials also warned that non-compliance could result in stricter enforcement measures, including the removal of illegal stalls and possible fines for obstructing public pathways.

Residents have welcomed the move, hoping that the coordinated efforts of the Kondhwa Traffic Division and PMC will ensure smoother traffic flow during Ramzan. Officials have assured continuous monitoring and follow-up inspections to prevent congestion from escalating. With proactive intervention and public cooperation, the authorities aim to balance commercial activity during the festive season with the safety and convenience of the local population, making life manageable for Kondhwa residents during this busy period.

This initiative reflects the growing focus on sustainable traffic management and citizen safety in rapidly urbanizing areas like Kondhwa, where festive markets often exacerbate existing congestion issues.
