Pune, March 6, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has asked Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed metro corridor connecting Wakad to Shewalewadi via Katraj.

The request comes shortly after elected representatives suggested expanding metro connectivity from Hinjewadi to Khadakwasla to address growing traffic and improve public transport in Pune.

In a letter to MahaMetro, PMC Chief Engineer Dinkar Gojare stated that the feasibility of the proposed Wakad–Shewalewadi corridor should first be examined within the framework of the city’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP). The CMP for Pune has been prepared by MahaMetro, which also operates the city’s metro network.

Gojare said that if the proposed corridor is found feasible under the CMP, further steps such as site inspections and preliminary planning should be initiated. These steps would help in preparing the DPR for the new metro route.

The proposed corridor is expected to pass through Katraj and may eventually connect with other key metro lines, strengthening the city’s public transport network and offering better connectivity between western and southern parts of Pune.

Meanwhile, the Pune Metro Line 3 corridor between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, which passes through Wakad, is scheduled to begin operations in April. The line is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the city’s IT corridor and improve daily commuting options for thousands of passengers.
