Pune: Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari Assumes Charge As Commissioner Of PMRDA
Pune, March 9, 2026: Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari (IAS) officially assumed charge as the new Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on Monday (March 9). He took over the position from outgoing Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase.
After assuming office, Dr. Chaudhari interacted with the media and stated that his priority will be to accelerate the development of the Pune Metropolitan Region through systematic planning and the timely execution of key infrastructure projects. He emphasized that major initiatives such as the Pune Ring Road and Metro projects will be fast-tracked to support the region’s rapid growth.
Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla and Joint Commissioner (Administration) Rupali Awale-Dambe were present on the occasion. Outgoing Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase and Deepak Singla welcomed Dr. Chaudhari and extended their best wishes for his new role.
Dr. Chaudhari highlighted that PMRDA will take effective steps to address the challenges arising from rapid urbanisation in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding rural areas. “Our focus will be on the efficient implementation of important projects such as the Pune Ring Road, the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor, and Town Planning Schemes (TPS). Priority will also be given to resolving traffic congestion in IT and industrial zones, along with advancing the river improvement project,” he said.
He further noted that issues related to land acquisition and compensation for farmers will be resolved through coordination and dialogue.
With around 15 years of administrative experience, Dr. Chaudhari is expected to bring renewed momentum to several pending PMRDA projects. He also reaffirmed his commitment to building a prosperous, industry-friendly, and livable metropolitan region for the future.
