PMC budget allocates ₹740 crore for traffic planning as multiple flyovers, bridges and elevated corridors aim to ease congestion.

Pune is set to witness several major infrastructure projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion, with the civic administration announcing that work on three key bridges will be completed before the monsoon as part of the city’s latest budget plans.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earmarked ₹740 crore for traffic planning and infrastructure projects in the city. The budget focuses on improving road connectivity, repairing major roads, and constructing flyovers, river bridges and railway bridges to ease the growing traffic pressure.

According to the civic administration’s plan, three important bridges — the Ghorpadi railway bridge, the bridge over the Aga Khan river, and the bridge over the Suncity Karvenagar river — are expected to be completed before the monsoon season.

In addition, the PMC has proposed several other projects to improve traffic movement across the city. In the next financial year, work is expected to begin on a flyover at Mundhwa Chowk, a bridge over the Shivne Nanded City river, and a flyover connecting Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon.

Several other infrastructure works have also been planned, including the Sakhar Sankul railway flyover and a railway underpass at Khadki. The administration has also proposed road widening projects on key routes to improve connectivity.

As part of the broader traffic management strategy, the PMC plans to introduce pay-and-park facilities on a pilot basis to address congestion caused by unauthorised roadside parking in busy areas.

Along with road infrastructure, parking spaces are also being planned near metro stations. Around 30 amenity spaces will be developed to provide parking facilities, helping commuters who use the metro network.

Two major tunnel projects are also included in the development plan. These include the Pashan (Panchavati) to Kothrud (Sutardara) tunnel and the Hingne Khurd to Taljai Chowk tunnel, which aim to improve east-west connectivity across the city.

Meanwhile, large-scale highway infrastructure projects have also been announced for the Pune region. Work on three major elevated corridors connecting Kharadi–Shirur, Bhairobanala–Yavat and Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur is expected to begin soon.

These corridors are part of a broader plan to reduce congestion on key highways and improve connectivity between industrial and residential zones. Authorities said tenders for these projects have already been finalised and construction is expected to begin shortly.

Officials have also proposed several large road infrastructure projects, including multi-lane highways and double-decker flyovers, aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting Pune’s rapid urban growth.

With the city facing increasing traffic pressure due to rapid population growth and expanding suburbs, civic officials believe the new infrastructure projects could significantly improve mobility for commuters in the coming years.
