Pune: 100-km Police Chase By Pimpri Chinchwad Police Foils ₹50 Lakh Kidnap Plot; Businessman Rescued, Five Arrested
Pune, March 10, 2026: A swift and coordinated operation by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police led to the safe rescue of a kidnapped businessman after a nearly 100-kilometre chase and the arrest of five accused who had allegedly abducted him to demand ₹50 lakh in ransom.
Police said the kidnapping took place on March 9 at around 5:15 pm near Fountain Hotel in Rahatani. The victim, a trader, was allegedly forced into a black Maruti Suzuki Swift by five unidentified men. Soon after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded ₹50 lakh, threatening to kill him if the ransom was not paid.
Following a complaint, a case was registered at Kalewadi Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Teams Formed, Vehicle Tracked
Acting on the seriousness of the crime, senior officers of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate formed multiple teams from the Crime Branch, Anti-Extortion Cell and Anti-Goonda Squad to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victim.
Investigators analysed CCTV footage and mobile phone records, which revealed that the accused were attempting to flee towards Uttar Pradesh. Based on technical inputs, police teams coordinated with authorities in Ahilyanagar and laid traps at key points including Alephata and the Sangamner Toll Plaza.
Five Accused Arrested
During a raid near Sangamner, police intercepted the suspect vehicle and arrested five accused: Chandrashekhar Dipchand Gaud (34), Dilip Mohanlal Saroj (28), Rinku Alaguram Saroj (20), Anil Giridharilal Saroj (26) and Mukeshkumar Rammurat Chamar (24).
Police seized two country-made pistols, six live cartridges, five mobile phones, the victim’s watch worth ₹7 lakh, the Swift car used in the crime and other items, with the total value of seized property estimated at ₹18.28 lakh.
Victim Found Safe
During the investigation, police discovered that the kidnappers had abandoned the victim in the Chandanapuri Ghat near Sangamner. A police team later traced him and brought him safely under protection.
Police also detained Santan Suresh Chavan (35) from Kalewadi, who is suspected of providing information about the victim to the kidnappers.
Officials said the accused have been handed over to Kalewadi Police Station for further investigation, and more details about the conspiracy are being probed. The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior officers including Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey.
