Airline travel often means sharing a confined public space with dozens of other passengers, where simple etiquette—like keeping noise levels low—helps ensure a comfortable journey for everyone onboard. However, a recent incident on a domestic flight in the United States showed how quickly things can escalate when those expectations are ignored.

A woman was removed from an American Airlines flight after she repeatedly played a video loudly on her phone without using headphones, leading to a tense confrontation that was captured on camera by another passenger.

The incident reportedly took place on a flight travelling from Miami to Tampa. According to the passenger who recorded the moment, the woman had been watching videos on her phone with the volume turned up, which disturbed others nearby.

The man later shared the footage on TikTok, claiming the passenger appeared intoxicated and had refused to use headphones despite being asked by the cabin crew.

In the post—also reshared on X by user Collin Rugg—the person who filmed the scene said flight attendants had already requested the woman to lower the volume or use headphones even before the aircraft departed from the gate.

According to his account, the situation escalated quickly.

He wrote that the “lady immediately got angry, rude and belligerent” when approached by the crew about the noise. Despite the tension, he added that the airline staff handled the situation calmly and respectfully throughout the interaction.

Video footage circulating online shows the woman loudly objecting as airline staff and police moved to remove her from the aircraft.

At one point, she can be heard shouting in protest:

“I played a video for 30 f****** seconds at 50% sound, and that’s the f****** reason you’re kicking me off,” she yelled while arguing with the crew and responding officers.

Eventually, police escorted the passenger off the plane as other travellers onboard reportedly applauded the decision.

The incident comes shortly after United Airlines updated its rules regarding passenger conduct. Earlier this month, the airline warned that travellers who play audio or video content aloud without headphones could face disciplinary action.

In February, the airline revised its “refusal to transport” policy, which outlines situations where passengers may be denied boarding or removed from a flight.

Under the updated guideline, passengers who continue playing media without headphones after being warned may be taken off the aircraft. The rule is listed alongside other violations that can lead to removal, such as physically assaulting airline staff or attempting to travel barefoot.
