A video of a Kalyan woman driving an auto rickshaw with her young daughter seated beside her has touched many people online.

A heart-warming story from Maharashtra’s Kalyan is drawing attention after a video showed a mother driving an auto rickshaw with her three-year-old daughter sitting beside her throughout the day.

Komal Gaikwad begins her day early every morning. At around 6:30 am, she starts her auto rickshaw and heads out to work, while her daughter Teju accompanies her on every ride.

Inside the auto, Komal has built a small wooden seat next to the driver’s seat especially for her daughter, ensuring the child remains close and safe while she works.

Komal was born and raised in Parbhani and once hoped to continue her education, but financial difficulties forced her to stop studying after Class 10. She later married in 2018 and moved to Kalyan with her husband, who drove an auto rickshaw to support the family.

Life, however, took an unexpected turn when Teju was just 18 months old. Her husband went back to the village and never returned, leaving Komal alone with the responsibility of raising their daughter and managing household expenses.

Initially, she worked as a security guard, but the job soon became difficult because there was no one to take care of the child. Faced with the challenge, Komal decided to take a bold step and began driving an auto rickshaw for hire.

At first, she had arranged a small bed at the back of the vehicle for Teju. However, the child would start crying whenever passengers occupied the rear seat. To solve the problem, Komal later installed a small seat beside her, allowing the girl to stay close to her mother throughout the day.

Today, Komal earns around ₹400 to ₹500 daily through her auto rides. Recently, she also managed to buy her own rickshaw on EMI, marking a small but important step toward stability.

Despite the struggles, her dream remains clear. Komal hopes to educate Teju in a good English-medium school and eventually own a house.

Her biggest wish, she says, is simple yet powerful — “I want to make my daughter a big boss.”
