A private moment inside a residential lift turned into a major controversy after CCTV footage was allegedly leaked and circulated on social media.

A disturbing privacy breach has come to light in Mumbai’s Sakinaka area, where a married woman has filed a police complaint after a CCTV clip from a residential building lift was allegedly leaked and circulated on social media.

The case reportedly involves the 25-year-old son of the housing society chairman, who is suspected of accessing the building’s CCTV footage and sharing a clip that showed the woman with an unknown man inside the elevator as per reported by Mid-day.

According to the complaint, the incident itself took place in January 2026, when the 36-year-old woman entered the lift of her residential building. During the ride, an unknown man also stepped into the elevator.

Investigators say the two appeared to recognise each other and shared a private moment inside the lift, unaware that the entire interaction was being recorded by the CCTV camera installed in the elevator.

For nearly three months, the incident remained unknown to the woman. The matter came to light only recently when the clip allegedly began circulating among residents and eventually spread on social media.

Woman Learns About Viral Video In Market

The woman reportedly discovered the issue on March 9, when she visited a local vegetable market around evening.

There, she overheard a few people talking about a video that had gone viral. When she turned around, she noticed several women discussing the clip.

An acquaintance present at the spot informed her that a video of her inside the lift with a man was being circulated widely.

The revelation reportedly left the woman shocked and deeply distressed. According to the complaint, the circulation of the clip caused serious damage to her reputation and led to humiliation within the residential society.

CCTV Access Under Scanner

During the investigation, it emerged that the housing society chairman was not technically equipped to handle the CCTV system, so the responsibility of managing and checking footage had been given to his son.

Police suspect that the accused may have accessed the CCTV backup system, extracted the video clip and circulated it, leading to the scandal.

Following the complaint, Sakinaka police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

Officials say the probe is currently underway to determine how the footage was accessed, copied and circulated, as unauthorised sharing of CCTV recordings is considered a serious violation of privacy.

Police are expected to question the accused and record his statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
