Godman from Palghar booked for rape, 35 year old Pune woman gathers courage after Kharat case
Palghar / Pune, March 27, 2026: A self-styled godman from Palghar district of Maharashtra has been booked for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman after claiming to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and woman as Parvati, an official said on Friday.
The woman mustered courage to file a complaint against the 40-year-old accused after the recent arrest of self-styled godman Ashok Kharat in Nashik, he said.
According to the police, the Pune woman came into contact of the accused via Facebook in 2023.
Details from the complaint revealed that in December 2023 the accused visited Pune to meet the woman. He allegedly deceived her by claiming he was an incarnation of Mahadev and that she was his ‘Parvati.
The accused took her to a Manjari based lodge and where he gave her numbing substance before raping her. He also took photographs of the woman taking advantage of her unresponsiveness.
