Pune, March 27, 2026: Students at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) staged a protest on Friday, demanding the removal of the vice-chancellor, citing administrative failures and poor governance affecting academics and infrastructure.

Student leaders alleged that nearly ₹62 crore allocated under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) remains unutilized, resulting in delays in infrastructure projects and academic initiatives. They also raised concerns over pending examination results, with reports of nearly five lakh students awaiting results for over 90 days. Several key academic and administrative posts, including deans and the examination controller, continue to be handled on an ad hoc basis, students said.

Protestors highlighted delays in PhD processes, faculty recruitment, and scholarship disbursement. They also raised concerns over the alleged leak of a confidential report regarding the registrar’s appointment, questioning transparency and demanding strict action.
