Pune: MIDC Seeks Forest Clearance For 38.5 Hectares For Proposed Purandar Airport
Pune, March 27, 2026: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has submitted a proposal seeking forest clearance for approximately 38.5 hectares of land for the upcoming Purandar International Airport near Pune. The development was confirmed by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge in a post on X on Thursday.
The Purandar airport is being developed as a greenfield project in Purandar taluka and is expected to address the growing aviation needs of Pune. Currently, Pune airport operates as a civil enclave within an Indian Air Force base, limiting its expansion and capacity. The new airport aims to ease congestion, improve domestic and international connectivity, and handle increasing passenger and cargo traffic.
Apart from aviation benefits, the project is expected to boost the regional economy, attract investments, support industries like IT and manufacturing, and generate employment opportunities. Land acquisition across multiple villages is underway, with authorities working to expedite the process.
Once completed, the Purandar airport is envisioned as a major logistics and connectivity hub for western Maharashtra.
