Pune, March 30, 2026: Ahead of the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage, discussions are underway regarding a possible change in the halt location of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s palkhi (palanquin procession) in Pune, following concerns raised by devotees and organizers.

A key meeting of the Alandi temple trust and dindi (pilgrim group) representatives was recently held to finalize arrangements for the upcoming procession. This year, the palkhi is scheduled to depart from Alandi on July 8 and proceed towards Pandharpur, drawing thousands of devotees from across Maharashtra.

Traditionally, the palkhi stays in Pune for two days during Palkhi sohola. However, participants highlighted several logistical challenges during last year’s sohola, particularly at Bhavani Peth, where heavy crowds made it difficult for dindis to reach the main procession.

In response, there is a growing demand to shift one of the halts from Bhavani Peth to Wadki Naka. Devotees believe this change could help manage crowds more effectively and reduce congestion.

Organizers also pointed out that delays in travel—especially due to roadwork between Hadapsar and Dive Ghat—caused significant inconvenience last year, with the procession reaching Saswad as late as 11 pm. To address this, a proposal suggests keeping one halt in Pune city and another at Wadki Naka.

In another change, the departure time of the palkhi from Alandi has been advanced by one hour. Instead of the usual 4 pm start, the procession will now begin at 3 pm on July 8 to ensure smoother coordination and timely movement of the dindis.

A final decision on the halt location is expected after further consultations with local authorities and stakeholders.
