Lift Crash in Talegaon Dabhade: Young Man Dies; Case Filed Against Chairman and 11 Others
Victim died after elevator cable snapped during rescue attempt; negligence in maintenance alleged
A tragic accident in Pune’s Talegaon Dabhade area has claimed the life of a young man after a residential society lift collapsed, raising serious concerns over maintenance and safety standards in housing complexes.
The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Surange. According to police, the incident occurred when he was travelling in the lift, which suddenly got stuck between the sixth and seventh floors of the building.
During attempts to rescue him, the situation turned fatal. The lift’s cable reportedly snapped, causing the elevator to crash down. Surange sustained severe injuries in the fall and was immediately rushed to a hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Following the incident, Surange’s brother lodged a complaint at the Talegaon Dabhade police station. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the chairman of the housing society along with 11 other members, citing alleged negligence in the maintenance of the lift.
Initial findings suggest that poor upkeep and possible lapses in safety checks may have contributed to the accident. Authorities are now investigating whether mandatory maintenance protocols were followed and if there were prior warnings about the lift’s condition.
The case has brought attention to the importance of regular inspection and proper servicing of elevators, especially in residential buildings where daily usage is high. Police have initiated further investigation and appropriate legal action is expected based on the findings.
