Pune, March 30, 2026: In a major push to preserve cultural heritage while boosting tourism, the Pune Municipal Corporation has announced several ambitious projects in its 2026–27 budget.

According to Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, the plan emphasizes strengthening Pune’s cultural identity through large-scale developments such as heritage corridors, monuments, and cultural infrastructure.

One of the key proposals includes the development of “Shivsrushti” on a 50-acre plot at Chandani Chowk, for which approval has already been granted by the state government. The project will showcase a grand exhibition based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Additionally, a “Bharat Mandapam”-style convention and exhibition centre is planned at Lohegaon, inspired by New Delhi’s international venue model.

To enhance the city’s visual identity, grand entrance gates dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be constructed at key entry points, along with landscaping, illumination, and cultural installations.

Tourism-focused projects form a major highlight of the budget. These include a ropeway connecting Parvati Hill to Sarasbaug Temple, aimed at improving accessibility and offering scenic travel. Additionally, a glass bridge is planned from the main gate of Sarasbaug Temple to the temple premises, creating a unique visitor experience. An advanced aerial attraction centre named “Orbi” is also proposed.

To further promote Pune’s cultural legacy, the civic body has proposed a public Ganesh festival museum, a comprehensive cultural blueprint, and the planning of an international arts festival.

These initiatives are expected to enhance tourism while preserving the city’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
