Pune, March 28: Vedanta Society in Wakad has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability by successfully commissioning a 70 kW rooftop solar power project under its ‘Go Green’ initiative. The project, completed within just three months at an approximate cost of ₹35 lakh, marks a major milestone in the society’s eco-friendly efforts.

The project was inaugurated on Saturday by Hon’ble MLA Shankar Bhau Jagtap. The event was attended by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation corporators Mrs. Sneha Tai Kalate, Mrs. Shruti Tai Wakadkar, Mrs. Reshma Tai Bhujbal, Mr. Kunal Wavhalakar, along with a large number of society residents.

In his introductory address, Chairman Dr. Somnath Dhonde highlighted that the solar project was completed without collecting any additional funds from residents. It was executed using the society’s savings along with financial support from central government subsidies. He further stated that the project is expected to reduce the common electricity (MSEB) bill by approximately 60 percent. He also announced that an additional 60 kW solar project will soon be implemented with the support of residents.

On the occasion, MLA Shankar Bhau Jagtap appreciated the initiative, describing it as a commendable step towards sustainable development and an environmentally responsible future. He emphasized that such initiatives not only reduce electricity costs but also contribute to the nation’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by promoting clean and self-reliant energy solutions.

Under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Somnath Dhonde, the society has consistently implemented several eco-friendly initiatives. The society already operates a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), and in 2020, the STP meter was converted into a green meter, resulting in significant savings in electricity costs.

Additionally, the society has implemented rainwater harvesting and partial wet waste management systems, with plans to introduce a complete waste processing project soon. These efforts are expected to reduce the burden on the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

The solar project was executed under the guidance of Mr. Sumant Deshpande, with valuable support from Secretary Sneha Rao, Treasurer Pramod Bhosale, and committee members Nikhil Mule, Mayur Waghmare, Parag Rudrawar, Bhushan Baviskar, Gaurav Mankar, Madan Patil, and Niti Pathak.

Vedanta Society has consistently maintained a green and eco-friendly campus, and this initiative is expected to serve as an inspiration for other residential societies.
