Pune Weather Update: Unseasonal Rain, Hail Lash City; Pashan Records 46mm, IMD Issues Alerts For Coming Days
Pune, March 31, 2026: Pune experienced unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms on Monday, March 30, 2026, with Pashan recording the highest precipitation of 46 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Areas including Baner, Aundh, Shivajinagar, and Hinjawadi were particularly affected, facing heavy showers and hail in the afternoon.
The day started with hot and humid conditions, but dark clouds quickly gathered post-noon, bringing strong winds, sudden rain, and hail in isolated pockets. Other areas that saw notable rainfall include Lohegaon (36.2 mm), Shivajinagar (26.2 mm), Magarpatta (25 mm), Koregaon Park (19 mm), and Dapodi (16 mm). Light rain was also recorded in regions such as Ballalwadi, Hadapsar, Rajgurunagar, Chinchwad, Lavale, Narayangaon, and Haveli.
The intense weather caught many residents off guard despite prior IMD alerts for March 30 and 31. Waterlogging was reported in several localities, and strong winds caused civic disturbances, including 14 tree-fall incidents reported by the fire department between 3 pm and 6:30 pm.

Meteorologists explained that the unusual weather is due to the interaction of active atmospheric systems. A primary trough stretching from Vidarbha through Marathwada to southern Tamil Nadu, along with a secondary trough from northwest Uttar Pradesh to interior Odisha, is bringing moisture into Maharashtra. The combination of these systems with high temperatures is causing thunderstorms, hail, and heavy rainfall.
Senior IMD meteorologist S. D. Sanap said similar weather is expected to continue in the short term. An orange alert has been issued for isolated thunderstorms and hailstorms in Pune on Tuesday, with intensity gradually reducing thereafter. A yellow alert has been issued for April 1 and 2, and weather conditions are expected to stabilise from April 3 onward.
The unseasonal showers follow several days of unusually high temperatures across Pune. Maximum temperatures touched 40°C in Lohegaon and Purandar, while Shivajinagar recorded 39°C. Night temperatures remained above normal, with a minimum of 21.3°C recorded on March 27.
Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure instructed the municipal administration to quickly remove fallen trees and clear waterlogged areas. She also urged preparation for pre-monsoon tasks such as drain cleaning and manhole clearing to prevent further disruptions. PMC staff and the disaster management cell are actively managing the situation across the city.
This sudden weather shift underscores the city’s vulnerability to pre-monsoon disturbances and highlights the need for vigilance as rainfall continues in the coming days.
