Probe reveals financial strain, lack of support and mounting anxiety before the couple died by suicide

A tragic incident in Bengaluru has brought to light the intense pressure faced by young professionals, as fresh details emerge in the death of a techie couple.

Banu Chandra Reddy, a 32-year-old software engineer, was found dead in his apartment. Shortly after, his wife Bibi Shaziya Siraj, who worked at a multinational tech company, died after jumping from their residential building.

Investigations suggest that prolonged unemployment and financial stress may have played a major role. Reddy had earlier worked in the United States with a reported high-paying package, but lost his job and returned to India. For nearly a year, he had been struggling to find stable employment.

The job loss is believed to be linked to wider changes in the tech industry, including a shift toward AI-driven roles. This left him without a steady income, increasing financial pressure and anxiety over time.

Police said a note recovered from the scene pointed to stress, job loss and mental health struggles. Reddy reportedly took responsibility for his actions and requested that his wife not be blamed.

The couple had also been dealing with personal challenges. Their interfaith marriage reportedly lacked full family acceptance, leading to strained relationships and limited support. They had been living in Bengaluru for several months, largely managing their difficulties on their own.

On the day of the incident, Shaziya had returned home from her night shift and raised concern when her husband did not respond. Security staff later broke open the door and found Reddy’s body. In the chaos that followed, she is believed to have gone to a higher floor and jumped.

The case highlights how a combination of financial strain, emotional isolation and career uncertainty can have devastating consequences. Police have said further investigation is ongoing.
