Pune: PMC Officials Raise Concern Over Harassment, Seek Action Against Misuse Of Social Media
Pune, April 10, 2026: Officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation have submitted a formal representation to the Municipal Commissioner, expressing serious concerns over alleged harassment, pressure tactics, and misuse of social media by certain self-proclaimed activists.
In their memorandum, submitted on April 9, the officials highlighted instances of inappropriate behavior targeting civic staff and attempts to influence administrative functioning through intimidation. They pointed out that, as per Maharashtra government rules, only complaints filed by directly affected individuals should be considered, while third-party complaints are not admissible. Despite this, officials claim that such norms are being frequently violated.
The representation also noted a rise in the circulation of incomplete or misleading information on social media platforms, which, according to them, is damaging the reputation of the civic administration.
Responding to the concerns, the Municipal Commissioner assured that strict action would be taken against those found engaging in such activities. This includes filing police complaints against individuals involved, directing law enforcement authorities to take preventive measures, and considering restrictions on the entry of such persons into municipal offices.
The officials have demanded firm legal action to curb such practices and called for immediate steps to ensure that administrative work is not disrupted.
