Pune: Kothrud Residents Allege Harassment By Encroachment Officials
Pune, April 10, 2026: Serious allegations have emerged from Kothrud, where residents have accused officials from the encroachment department of high-handed behavior and intimidation during recent drives.
According to local complaints, officials allegedly pushed and threatened residents during anti-encroachment drive. In one incident, an elderly woman was reportedly verbally abused and intimidated at her doorstep, with officials allegedly attempting to physically confront her.
Residents further claimed that teams entered private housing societies and forcibly seized goods belonging to shopkeepers, despite the properties being within private premises. It has also been alleged that private contractor staff accompanying the officials have been continuously removing goods from such areas without proper justification.
Locals allege that large teams are deployed during these operations, creating an atmosphere of fear among ordinary citizens. When questioned, officials reportedly invoked legal provisions to silence objections and, in some cases, allegedly filed complaints to suppress dissent.
Citizens have raised concerns over the lack of response from authorities despite multiple written complaints, alleging that taxpayers are being deliberately targeted without due process.
The issue has been highlighted by Raj Govind Jadhav from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Kothrud Assembly constituency, who has called for accountability and action in the matter.
