Pune Civic Body Clears Plan To Install Grand Entry Gates Across City
Pune, April 10, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a long-pending proposal to build entrance gates at major entry points to the city, marking a step forward for a project that has faced years of delay.
The decision was taken by the civic body’s standing committee on Wednesday. The plan involves constructing prominent gateways along key routes leading into Pune, such as the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, Solapur Road, the Bengaluru Highway, and Ahmednagar Road.
According to standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale, the initiative reflects Pune’s cultural and historical significance as one of Maharashtra’s largest and most important cities.
He confirmed that the committee has officially sanctioned the project.
The idea of installing entry gates has been under consideration for several years. Similar structures already exist in various cities across Maharashtra and India, serving as symbolic welcome points for visitors. Despite earlier delays, the project is now expected to move ahead following the latest approval.
A senior civic official noted that since many of the identified locations fall along national highways, the PMC will need to work closely with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to implement the plan.
