Five Pune Police Constables Suspended In Three Days; Two Accused Of Drunken Misconduct On Duty
Pune, April 11, 2026: In a series of disciplinary actions, five police constables in Pune have been suspended over the past three days, with two from Kalepadal Police Station facing charges of misconduct while allegedly under the influence of alcohol during duty hours.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde ordered the suspension of constables Sachin Sureshrao Jadhav and Sanjay Ankush Karad after two separate incidents highlighted serious lapses in discipline.
According to officials, Sanjay Karad, posted at Undri Police Chowky, reportedly left his duty without permission on March 9 around 2 pm. He allegedly consumed alcohol and later arrived at the Kalepadal Police Station premises on a motorcycle. While entering, he is said to have hit a woman complainant seated on a bench, causing minor injuries. He also allegedly argued with and misbehaved with other complainants present. A medical test conducted at Sassoon General Hospital confirmed alcohol consumption.
In another incident, Sachin Jadhav was assigned special duty at an examination centre in Loni Kalbhor (MIT campus) on March 21 between 2:30 pm and 9 pm. During an inspection around 6 pm by Senior Police Inspector Mansing Patil, Jadhav was allegedly found intoxicated and behaving inappropriately. Medical reports later confirmed he had consumed alcohol.
Following these incidents, both constables were suspended, with authorities reiterating a zero-tolerance stance toward indiscipline, especially involving alcohol consumption while on duty.
Earlier, three constables from Wagholi Police Station were also suspended after being accused of coercing an engineer and his partner into transferring ₹10,000 to avoid the filing of a case.
