Sunday afternoon witnessed a violent turn of events in Punawale, Pune, after a real estate consultant objected to an autorickshaw being driven on the wrong side of the road, leaving the 34-year-old injured near his residence.

According to police, the consultant was driving in the area when he noticed an autorickshaw approaching from the wrong side. Concerned about safety, he stopped his vehicle and questioned the driver for flouting traffic rules and putting lives at risk. The autorickshaw driver was later identified as Santosh Bhosale (27), a resident of Mulshi.

“The consultant was driving when he spotted an autorickshaw coming from the wrong side. Alarmed, he stopped and confronted the driver for endangering lives,” a Ravet police officer said, citing the complaint filed by the victim.

What began as a verbal exchange soon escalated into a heated argument. Bhosale allegedly started abusing the consultant and forced him out of his car. In a sudden outburst, he picked up a jack from inside the autorickshaw and attacked the consultant, striking his left palm.

“The argument intensified, and the autorickshaw driver assaulted the consultant with a jack,” the officer added.

The victim sustained a deep cut on his left palm and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors treated him and administered seven stitches.

After receiving treatment, the consultant approached the Ravet police and lodged a complaint. “The victim provided the autorickshaw’s registration number and other details, which helped us trace the accused,” the officer said.

Based on the complaint, police tracked down and arrested Bhosale on Monday. He has been booked under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon, along with other relevant sections.

Further investigation is underway.
