Pune: PMC Sets Up Joint Panel To Strengthen Revenue And Meet ₹15,669 Crore Budget Target Â
Pune, April 16, 2026: In a significant move aimed at improving safety during redevelopment projects, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a strict and detailed set of guidelines governing building demolition activities across the city.
The new regulations have been introduced to prevent accidents during demolition work and to reduce inconvenience caused to residents of neighbouring buildings. Officials said this is the first time such a comprehensive framework has been put in place, aimed at bringing greater discipline to demolition practices in redevelopment projects.
Prior Permission Made Mandatory
Under the new rules, written permission from the concerned municipal department will now be compulsory before any demolition work begins. Developers and housing societies will also be required to submit proper documentation to the civic administration.
Safety and Contact Protocols
Societies undertaking demolition must maintain complete contact details of neighbouring society office bearers, including chairpersons and secretaries. In addition, contact information for local police, fire brigade, and electricity distribution officials must also be readily available at the site.
NOCs Now Essential
Demolition activity will not be allowed without prior No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both the Property Tax Department and the Water Supply Department, making compliance more stringent than before.
Responsibility for Neighbouring Safety
The guidelines clearly state that if demolition work poses any risk to adjoining structures, it will be the responsibility of the developer and concerned society to ensure those buildings are vacated and secured in advance.
Monitoring and Transparency
PMC has stated that it will closely monitor demolition activities to ensure transparency and safety throughout the process. Officials added that contractors will not be permitted to begin demolition work without completing all legal and procedural requirements.
Aim to Regulate Redevelopment
The civic body noted that redevelopment projects in Pune have often led to incidents such as cracks in neighbouring buildings and safety hazards. The new rules are expected to reduce such risks and ensure orderly execution of demolition work in the city.
