Pune Braces For 42°C Heat: IMD Warns Of Scorching Days Despite Thunderstorm Chances

Pune is expected to remain under intense heat over the next few days, with some areas likely to touch 42°C even as evening thunderstorms and light rain remain possible.

Pune is heading into another spell of harsh summer weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that temperatures in parts of the city may rise to 42°C. Despite chances of evening thunderstorms, lightning and light rain, daytime heat is expected to stay severe.

Hottest Areas In Pune Likely To Touch 42°C

According to the latest forecast, Lohegaon and Koregaon Park are expected to be the hottest locations in the city.

Maximum temperatures are likely to remain around 41°C over the weekend and may climb further to 42°C over the next two days.

Other city areas are also expected to remain extremely warm:

Shivajinagar, Pashan and Magarpatta are likely to record around 40°C on Sunday, rise by about one degree on April 27, and then settle near 40°C again by April 29.

Chinchwad is expected to stay around 39°C on Saturday and Sunday, before temperatures rise again.

Warm Nights Adding To Discomfort

Saturday morning temperatures remained elevated across Pune, showing little overnight relief.

Shivajinagar recorded 24.3°C, while tree-covered zones such as Pashan and NDA were only slightly cooler at around 23.3°C.

Meanwhile, Chinchwad, Hadapsar and Dapodi were among the warmest early-morning locations, with temperatures crossing 26°C.

Warm nights often increase discomfort because the body gets less time to cool down after daytime exposure.

Thunderstorms Likely, But Little Cooling Expected

IMD has forecast that mainly clear skies during the day may turn partly cloudy by afternoon or evening, with a very likely chance of thunderstorms, lightning and very light rain.

However, similar weather in recent days has not significantly reduced daytime heat.

On April 24, Pune’s maximum temperature was reported 1.7°C above normal, with Shivajinagar nearing 40°C.

From April 28 onward, skies over Pune are expected to turn clear again, which may support continued heating.

Maharashtra Weather Update

The yellow alert for thunderstorms in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada is set to end from Sunday.

However, Vidarbha will continue under a yellow alert for heatwave conditions.

The state’s highest maximum temperature on April 24 was recorded in Akola at 45°C, while Mahabaleshwar remained the coolest with a minimum of 16.3°C.

Health Advisory For Residents

With temperatures crossing 40°C, residents are advised to avoid direct afternoon sun, stay hydrated, wear light clothing and check on elderly family members, children and outdoor workers.
