Viman Nagar One-Way System Under Scrutiny: Citizens Demand Compliance Or RollbackÂ
Pune, April 29, 2026: The Viman Nagar Citizens Forum has escalated its concerns over the one-way traffic system introduced in the locality, stating that the arrangement must be reconsidered if key corrective measures are not implemented.
The issue was raised during a meeting held on April 28 between forum convenor Qaneez Sukhrani and Himmat Jadhav, following a legal notice issued on February 5, 2026. Representatives including Krupali Bhatt, Umesh Magar, and Akshay Pokale were also present and shared their feedback during the discussion.

Residents alleged that multiple suggestions submitted since September 2024—through emails and on-site interactions with traffic officials—were not acted upon, leading to the current traffic challenges despite the one-way system introduced on November 15, 2025.
The forum submitted a detailed list of measures that they say are essential to improve traffic management in the area. These include ensuring continuity in leadership at the Viman Nagar Traffic Division, stricter enforcement of parking regulations, and action against roadside vendors obstructing traffic flow.
Among the key demands are the installation of scientifically designed speed breakers to control speeding on one-way routes, activation and proper timing of traffic signals at major junctions such as Dorabjee Chowk, Datta Mandir, and Gangapuram Chowk, and installation of CCTV cameras at critical intersections to monitor violations.
The forum has also called for the deployment of traffic personnel during peak hours at major junctions to regulate movement and reduce congestion. It highlighted ongoing issues of indiscipline among motorists, especially at cross junctions, which continue to cause traffic snarls despite the one-way system.
Additionally, the group urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to designate hawker zones, remove illegal food stalls causing congestion, and implement pay-and-park systems on key roads. Concerns were also raised about improper parking by residents of high-rise buildings, which adds to road congestion.
Another major issue flagged was the lack of enforcement of no-parking rules on VIP Airport Road, where congestion is expected to worsen with increasing development and upcoming metro work.
The forum emphasised that unless these measures are urgently implemented, the one-way traffic system may need to be withdrawn. It also called on the traffic police to conduct a comprehensive study to understand why congestion persists at key junctions like Gangapuram Chowk, Kailash Market, and Datta Mandir despite the new system.
Authorities have yet to respond officially to the demands.
