Pune, April 29, 2026: Maharashtra Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has directed officials to expedite pending work at the Lohgaon Sub-District Hospital and make it ready for inauguration within a month.

The directive was issued during a review meeting held at the Health Services Commissionerate in Mumbai under the minister’s leadership. The meeting also assessed the progress of the Regional Mental Hospital in Yerawada.

Highlighting the rapid population growth in Lohgaon and upcoming infrastructure developments such as airport expansion and the proposed ring road, officials discussed the need to enhance the hospital’s capacity. A proposal to expand the facility to 200 beds received in-principle support, with the minister instructing that it be incorporated into the hospital’s master plan.

MLA Bapusaheb Pathare, who attended the meeting, also proposed naming the hospital after Sant Tukaram Maharaj. The minister directed officials to prepare a formal proposal and seek approval from the Chief Minister.

Further, the minister instructed the Deputy Director of Health Services, Pune, along with concerned officials, to conduct a joint on-site inspection of both the Lohgaon hospital and the Yerawada mental hospital in coordination with the local MLA.

“All pending works including compound wall construction, removal of encroachments, and plantation activities must be accelerated after considering suggestions from public representatives,” the minister said.

Officials added that the government is prioritising the early operationalisation of the facility to ensure improved and accessible healthcare services for residents of Lohgaon and nearby areas.
