One of India’s important highway routes has received a major upgrade with the completion of the long-pending Missing Link on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. This newly built stretch removes a critical gap that had troubled commuters for years with heavy congestion, risky turns, and frequent slowdowns—especially during monsoon seasons. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially inaugurated the project, and the route is scheduled to be accessible to the public from the morning of May 2.

A message shared during the launch summed up the moment well, “The Missing Link is now Maharashtra’s new connecting link… a drive through the Mumbai–Pune ‘Connecting Link’, accelerating Maharashtra towards a new quantum corridor.”

Engineered for Speed, Safety, and Consistency

Troublesome sections of the expressway, once known for bottlenecks and accident-prone curves, have now been bypassed through smart engineering. The Missing Link includes long tunnels, elevated viaducts, and a smoother road layout that allows vehicles to maintain steady speeds. Travel time between Mumbai and Pune is expected to reduce, while overall driving safety sees a big improvement.

Weather-related disruptions—particularly during heavy rains—are also expected to reduce significantly thanks to the improved alignment and infrastructure. With this, the expressway becomes far more dependable throughout the year.

A High-Performance Drive for the Big Day

Marking the occasion in style, Devendra Fadnavis was seen driving along the new stretch in a Mercedes-AMG G63. Known for its bold design and powerful performance, the SUV added a sense of occasion to the inauguration.

What makes it even more interesting is that the vehicle was almost brand new, carrying a registration date of April 29, 2026—just two days before the event.

Mercedes-AMG G63: Performance Details

Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG G63 packs a handcrafted 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine producing 585 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. A 48V mild-hybrid system contributes an additional 15 kW boost, enhancing responsiveness.

Despite its boxy shape, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. It also features Launch Control and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h (electronically limited). Positioned as the top-end variant, the G63 is priced at ₹3.60 crore (ex-showroom).

Completion of the Missing Link removes a long-standing hurdle on this vital corridor and brings a noticeable shift in how people travel between Mumbai and Pune. Faster journeys, improved safety, and reliable conditions now define this route, setting a new benchmark for highway infrastructure in Maharashtra.
