Maharashtra Govt Approves New Class 6 Curriculum Under NEP, Implementation From June 2026
Pune, May 7, 2026: The Maharashtra government has approved a revised curriculum framework for Class 6, which will be introduced from the upcoming academic year beginning in June 2026.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the state-level steering committee for school education held at the Maharashtra Primary Education Council office under the chairmanship of School Education Minister Dada Bhuse.

Officials said the new curriculum has been prepared in accordance with the provisions of the National Education Policy and aims to strengthen competency-based learning and outcome-oriented education. The framework also focuses on defining age-appropriate difficulty levels for students.
The revised curriculum for Class 6 will be implemented along with the already approved updated syllabi for Classes 2, 3, and 4.
Minister Bhuse stated that the curriculum development process is part of the state’s efforts to modernise education and align teaching methods with national education reforms.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for School Education Pankaj Bhoyar, Principal Secretary Ranjitsinh Deol, Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh, State Board Chairman Trigun Kulkarni, and other senior education department officials.
According to the education department, once the curriculum receives final approval from the curriculum coordination committee under the School Education Commissioner, Balbharati will begin the textbook preparation process on priority. The textbooks are expected to be ready before the new academic session starts.
Officials also announced that teacher training programmes for the revised curricula of Classes 2, 3, and 4 will be conducted soon. The State Council of Educational Research and Training will organise state-level master training sessions this month, followed by district-level workshops to help teachers adapt to the updated curriculum framework.
