Pune, May 9, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a proposal worth ₹8.21 crore for the purchase of 15 new waste collection vehicles to improve the city’s solid waste management system.

The civic administration cleared the proposal to procure Bin Refuse Collector (BRC) vehicles, which will be used for daily garbage transportation across Pune, especially in newly merged areas facing increased waste management pressure.

According to PMC officials, each vehicle is expected to cost approximately ₹54.78 lakh, including 18% GST. The total cost for all 15 vehicles has been estimated at ₹8.21 crore.

PMC Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the city’s rapid expansion has increased the burden on the existing sanitation infrastructure, making additional waste transport vehicles necessary.

Officials stated that the tender process for the project began in December 2025 and was later reissued. Two companies qualified in the final bidding stage. Among them, Pagaria Auto Pvt Ltd emerged as the lowest bidder by quoting rates around 1.5% below the estimated project cost and has been recommended for the contract.

The project will be funded under the PMC’s 2026-27 budget allocation for waste transportation vehicles in newly added villages and extended city limits. Civic officials added that while a major portion of the funds is already available, the remaining ₹84 lakh will be arranged through internal budget adjustments.

PMC authorities said the addition of new vehicles is expected to improve the efficiency of garbage collection operations and help maintain better sanitation standards across the expanding city areas.
