From Mumbai’s iconic mango ice cream sandwich to Bengaluru’s legendary Death by Chocolate, five Indian frozen desserts have earned global recognition in TasteAtlas’ list of the world’s 100 best ice creams.
India’s love for rich, nostalgic and flavour-packed ice creams has received international recognition after TasteAtlas included five Indian ice cream varieties in its list of the world’s top 100 ice creams.

The globally popular food and travel guide recently released its rankings celebrating iconic frozen desserts from across countries, and India secured five spots with regional favourites from Mumbai, Mangaluru and Bengaluru.

One of the biggest highlights on the list is Mumbai’s famous Mango Ice Cream Sandwich from K. Rustom & Co. Known for its old-school charm since 1953, the dessert features creamy mango ice cream pressed between crisp wafers. The simple yet nostalgic treat has remained a favourite among generations of Mumbaikars and tourists alike.

Another Mumbai favourite to make the list is Naturals Ice Cream’s Tender Coconut flavour. Founded in 1984, Naturals became famous for using fresh fruits and natural ingredients without preservatives or artificial flavours. Its tender coconut ice cream, packed with soft coconut chunks and creamy texture, is considered one of the brand’s signature creations.

Mumbai-based Apsara Ice Creams also earned global attention for its Guava Ice Cream. The flavour combines sweet and spicy notes inspired by the popular Indian guava-chilli combination, creating a distinctly desi taste that has developed a strong fan following among younger consumers.

From Karnataka, Mangaluru’s iconic Pabba’s Gadbad Ice Cream secured a place on the prestigious list. Introduced in 1975, the dessert is known for its colourful mix of ice cream flavours, fruits, jellies, nuts and syrups layered into one indulgent serving. The famous “Gadbad” has become a landmark dessert for visitors to the coastal city.

Bengaluru’s legendary Death by Chocolate from Corner House also made the cut. First launched in 1982, the dessert is a rich chocolate sundae layered with brownies, cake, chocolate sauce, nuts and ice cream. Over the years, it has achieved cult status among chocolate lovers across India.
TasteAtlas also highlighted several globally celebrated frozen desserts including Italy’s Pistachio Gelato, England’s Clotted Cream ice cream and Turkey’s traditional Dondurma.
Food lovers online have widely welcomed the inclusion of Indian flavours, saying the recognition reflects the country’s unique dessert culture that blends nostalgia, local ingredients and regional creativity.
The rankings have once again placed Indian street-style and regional desserts on the global culinary map, proving that homegrown flavours continue to resonate far beyond the country’s borders.
