Latur Doctor May Turn CBI Witness In NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak Investigation
Pune, May 23, 2026: In a significant development in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to make Latur-based paediatrician Dr Manoj Shirure a witness in the case, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
Dr Shirure was recently detained and questioned by the CBI in connection with the alleged paper leak racket. Investigators suspect that he provided residential premises for conducting special coaching sessions allegedly based on leaked NEET examination papers.
The doctor was questioned for nearly two days in Pune after the agency reportedly discovered links between him and key accused in the case, including Shivraj Motegaonkar and retired professor PV Kulkarni.
According to investigators, selected students were allegedly trained using leaked NEET question papers before the examination. Officials are currently examining digital records, financial transactions and the alleged use of private properties for conducting such sessions.
Sources said Dr Shirure has been cooperating with the investigation, and his statement could play an important role in uncovering the functioning of the suspected paper leak network.
Speaking about the inquiry, Dr Shirure said he was questioned for two days before being allowed to return home. He confirmed that the agency recorded his statement and informed him that he may be called again if required.
The CBI is also investigating allegations that leaked NEET papers were procured for students appearing in this year’s medical entrance examination. During the interrogation of Kulkarni and Motegaonkar, investigators allegedly found evidence linking Dr Shirure to the operation.
Officials suspect that Kulkarni conducted a special coaching batch at premises allegedly provided by Dr Shirure, where students were trained using leaked material. Investigators are also probing claims that Motegaonkar’s son attended the sessions.
Dr Shirure, however, denied purchasing leaked NEET papers for his family members. He stated that his children are studying below Class 10 and rejected allegations of involvement in the paper leak racket.
“I have shared all information with the investigating agency. If I had done anything illegal, they would not have allowed me to leave,” he said.
He also mentioned that he had known Kulkarni for years, describing him as his former teacher and a patient whose grandchildren had been treated at his hospital.
