Pune, May 28, 2026: A road rage dispute in Pune’s Wagholi area allegedly turned violent after a couple travelling with their three-year-old son on a motorcycle was attacked by occupants of a car following an argument over reckless driving.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Shantanu Shukla, a private company engineer, was returning home with his wife Vartika and their son after shopping in Wagholi. According to the complaint lodged at Wagholi Police Station, the family was heading towards Majestic City when a white Maruti WagonR allegedly came dangerously close to their motorcycle near Soyarik Garden Chowk while taking a U-turn.
Police said the argument began after Shukla objected to the car driver’s rash driving. The occupants of the vehicle allegedly started verbally abusing the family and continued the confrontation even after reaching Wagholi Chowk.
The situation escalated after the complainant’s wife reportedly clicked a photograph of the vehicle. According to police, the accused then stopped their car near Avhalwadi Phata Chowk and allegedly blocked the motorcycle, causing the family to fall onto the road.
The FIR states that one of the accused allegedly threatened the complainant and physically assaulted him. During the scuffle, the couple’s three-year-old son reportedly suffered injuries to his lip after being struck accidentally. The family also alleged that two women travelling in the car assaulted Vartika when she tried to intervene, including pulling her hair.
Following the incident, the injured family approached Wagholi Police Station and later underwent medical treatment at a local hospital before filing a formal complaint.
Police have registered a case against four people, including two women, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Senior Police Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad of Wagholi Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered and said appropriate action will be taken after completion of the investigation.
