A locomotive fault on the Mumbai-Pune route caused major delays, affecting several trains and inconveniencing commuters.

Rail passengers travelling from Mumbai to Pune faced significant delays on Friday after the Deccan Express suffered a locomotive failure, leaving the train stranded for more than an hour on the Central Railway network.

The technical issue occurred while the train was heading towards Pune in the Kalyan–Karjat section. Railway staff initially attempted to fix the problem, but when the locomotive could not be restored quickly, a replacement engine was arranged.

Replacement Engine Brought From Karjat

According to railway officials, a new locomotive was dispatched from Karjat and attached to the train. After the replacement was completed, the Deccan Express resumed its journey towards Pune.

Due to the disruption, the train reached Pune nearly two hours behind schedule.

Several Trains Affected

The incident had a ripple effect across one of Central Railway’s busiest routes. Multiple long-distance trains travelling towards Pune and southern India were delayed as railway authorities managed traffic around the affected section.

Suburban rail services were also impacted, with at least one local train reportedly cancelled because of operational difficulties caused by the breakdown.

Passengers Face Delays

Passengers onboard the Deccan Express had to wait for an extended period before the train could move again. Travellers on other services along the route also experienced delays.

Railway officials said normal train operations were gradually restored once the replacement locomotive was attached and the affected train cleared the section.
