Pune-Mumbai Expressway Accident: Two Killed, Missing Link Closed for Hours After Major Crash
Mumbai, June 1, 2026: A major accident involving two heavy vehicles occurred on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway early Monday morning, leaving two people dead on the spot and disrupting traffic for several hours.
The crash took place around 5 a.m. near the Khalapur Food Mall, where the two heavy vehicles were severely damaged in the collision. An Ertiga car approaching from behind also rammed into one of the accident-hit vehicles, resulting in injuries to two occupants.
Due to the severity of the accident, authorities temporarily shut down the Mumbai-bound Missing Link section of the expressway. Traffic heading towards Mumbai from Lonavala was diverted via the main expressway and the old Pune-Mumbai Highway, leading to significant congestion and disruption for nearly two hours.
Officials later cleared the damaged vehicles from the roadway and reopened the Missing Link for traffic. Fortunately, the accident did not affect vehicles travelling from Mumbai towards Pune.
Further details are awaited.
