Salon Services Become Costlier Across Maharashtra As Rising Expenses Hit Industry
Mumbai, June 6, 2026: Customers across Maharashtra will now have to pay more for salon services after the Maharashtra Barbers’ Association announced a 20% increase in service charges. The revised rates came into effect across the state on June 6.
According to the association, the decision was taken in response to rising operational costs, including higher fuel prices, increased costs of domestic and imported beauty products, and growing expenses involved in running salon businesses.
The association stated that the rate revision was necessary to ensure the sustainability of salon operations and to safeguard the livelihoods of barbers and salon workers who have been operating on shrinking profit margins for several years.
With the implementation of the new rates, services such as haircuts, shaving, hair colouring, facials, and other grooming treatments will become more expensive for customers. Salon owners have cited substantial increases in the prices of essential products such as shampoos, hair colours, gels, waxes, and other grooming supplies.
Apart from rising product costs, salon operators are also facing increased electricity bills, higher shop rentals, local taxes, and loan repayments. Industry representatives said these factors have placed financial pressure on salon businesses in both urban and rural areas.
The association noted that the 20% hike has been introduced to help businesses cope with inflation and maintain financial stability. It has appealed to customers to support the decision, emphasizing that the increase is necessary for the survival of the salon industry.
The revised charges will apply across premium salons, air-conditioned salons, and salons in rural areas, with customers expected to pay approximately 20% more than the previous rates for various services.
