Popular playback singer Sonu Nigam has revealed that he is currently battling a painful nerve-related health condition that has also affected his voice. The singer shared the update through a video message, giving fans an insight into the medical challenges he has been facing over the past week.

According to the singer, he has been undergoing multiple medical tests, including MRI and CT scans, after developing a painful nerve problem. He said the condition has caused severe discomfort and required continuous treatment and medication.

Sharing details of his treatment, Sonu said that physiotherapy has been particularly challenging. “Physiotherapy was very painful. I am taking painkillers now. Due to that, my throat is also a little heavy,” he said.

However, the medication has had an unintended effect on his throat, leaving his voice slightly heavy and hoarse, a worrying development for a singer known for his vocal range and live performances.

Despite the physical strain, Sonu has decided not to cancel his scheduled performance in Mumbai. He said he is determined to take the stage and perform for his fans after a long gap, even though he is not feeling completely confident because of the health issue and its impact on his voice.

The singer’s update has triggered concern among fans across the country. Many have taken to social media to wish him a speedy recovery and praised his commitment to continuing with his professional responsibilities despite ongoing treatment.

Medical experts note that pinched or compressed nerves can cause intense pain, numbness, weakness and restricted movement depending on the affected area. Recovery often requires medication, physiotherapy, rest and, in some cases, further medical intervention. While such conditions can be painful, timely treatment generally improves outcomes.

For vocal artists, prolonged medication, muscle relaxants and painkillers can sometimes affect throat comfort and vocal quality temporarily. This makes recovery particularly challenging for singers who rely on precise voice control during live performances.

“Fans come to hear his voice, but his decision to honour the concert despite pain shows remarkable dedication to music,” said Pune-based music enthusiast Rohan Kulkarni.

“For singers, even a slight change in the throat can feel significant. It is encouraging to see him remain positive during recovery,” said Meera Deshpande, a classical music teacher from Pune.

“The update reminds us that performers often continue working through health challenges that audiences never see,” said Aditya Joshi, a concert organiser from Pune.

While Sonu Nigam continues treatment, fans will be hoping that the singer recovers fully and returns to the stage with his trademark voice and energy soon.
