Pimpri, June 19, 2026: With the usable water storage in the Pavana Dam falling to just 19% and the delayed arrival of the monsoon raising concerns over future water availability, the Pune Irrigation Department has directed the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to reduce the city’s water supply by 15%.

Accordingly, a 15% reduction in water supply across Pimpri Chinchwad has come into effect from Friday, June 19, 2026. PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi has appealed to residents to use water judiciously and avoid wastage.

Pimpri Chinchwad receives its water supply from the Pavana Dam. With only 19% usable water remaining in the reservoir and demand expected to rise in the coming weeks, authorities have stressed the need for careful and planned management of the available water resources.

In view of the situation, the Pune Irrigation Department instructed the civic body to implement a 15% reduction in water supply. Chief Engineer Pramod Ombase stated that the necessary adjustments have already been made in the city’s water distribution system.

Commissioner’s Appeal

“Water supply has been reduced by 15% to ensure planned management of the available water stock. Citizens are requested to use water sparingly and responsibly. Activities such as washing vehicles, overwatering gardens, and leaving taps running unnecessarily should be avoided. Water conservation is a collective responsibility, and we urge all residents to actively participate in saving water and cooperate with the municipal administration by following water conservation measures,” said Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
