8,572 violators fined for not wearing mask and spitting in public places by PCMC

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has fined 8,572 violators for spitting and not wearing masks while being at public places.  

Amid the growing COVID19 cases in PCMC, the violation of the norms prescribed by the Municipal Corporation has been on the rise. Altogether, a total fine of Rs 25, 22, 900 has been collected by the civic body with the help of Pimpri Chinchwad Police.

A senior official with PCMC said, “Considering the gradual rise in the COVID cases, we have been taking stringent action against people not wearing mask. Citizens should understand that it is for their safety.”

As per the data given so far, 5,036 people have been fined for spitting in the public places, and 3,536 people were caught with no mask. Rs 7, 55, 400 fine have been collected from violators for spitting in public places while Rs 17, 67, 500 have been collected from people roaming without mask.

On asking about how the corporation traces people who spit on the road, the official said, “We have appointed people standing at all the corners at main junctions and Pan stalls where people can be easily caught spitting and smoking. However, we would request the public through the media that please avoid spitting, smoking or appearing without mask in the public, he added.

Suggesting about the growing violation, and PCMC’s plan to curb the same, he confirmed that more strict measures will be introduced by the corporation, since people are not abiding by the rules and norms.

Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Shravan Hardikar, he said, “We intend to enforce fines on the people not wearing masks and spitting in public spaces strictly. The power to fine the violators is given to the Police personnels, too. We are appointing nuisance detection squads soon for the same purpose.”
