Pune, June 22, 2026: In a significant move aimed at strengthening higher education and skill development in Maharashtra, the state government has approved the allocation of 28 hectares of government land in Moshi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, for the establishment of a world-class educational, research, and training campus by the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday.

Under the proposal, the land in Moshi, located in Haveli taluka, will be provided to IIM Nagpur free of revenue charges and occupancy costs. The occupancy value of the land, estimated at ₹186 crore based on prevailing market rates, will be waived. However, this amount will be treated as the state government’s equity contribution in the institution’s authorized capital before the land is formally transferred.

The upcoming campus is expected to become a major centre for:

  • Advanced research
  • Executive and professional training
  • Industry-linked skill development
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives

Officials believe the project will significantly enhance educational infrastructure in the Pune region and create new opportunities for students, researchers, and industry professionals.

Boost to Education, Research and Skills Development

Speaking about the decision, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the Maharashtra government is working towards making the state a leading hub for education, industry, and skill development under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

He noted that providing land for a prestigious national institution such as IIM Nagpur in the Pune metropolitan region will give students and young professionals access to world-class education and training opportunities closer to home.

The project is also expected to strengthen research, innovation, and industry-oriented skill development, while supporting Maharashtra’s broader goal of becoming a knowledge and innovation-driven economy.

Once completed, the Moshi campus is expected to emerge as one of the region’s premier centres for management education and professional development, further enhancing Pune’s reputation as a major educational hub.
