Pune Railway Cracks Down On Illegal Vendors; 27 Hawkers Booked, 420 Bottles Of Unauthorized Water Seized
Pune, June 23, 2026: Pune Railway Division launched a surprise enforcement drive against unauthorized hawking across railway premises and trains, resulting in action against 27 illegal vendors.
Authorities also seized 420 bottles of non-approved packaged drinking water from Pune Railway Station, underscoring efforts to safeguard passenger health and ensure the sale of authorized products only

Under the guidance of Rajesh Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Pune, the direction of Anil Kumar Pathak, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Pune, Hemant Kumar Behera, Divisional Commercial Manager, Pune, and under the supervision of Shantanu Atre, Assistant Commercial Manager (Coaching), Pune, Pune Division conducted a surprise intensive checking drive on railway premises to curb the menace of illegal and unauthorized vending.
During the special drive conducted today with the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Commercial Department apprehended 27 unauthorized hawkers/vendors indulging in unauthorized vending activities on railway premises and trains.
Out of these, 27 cases were registered under Section 144 of the Railways Act and a total penalty of ₹54,000 was recovered, amounting to ₹2,000 per offender in accordance with the provisions of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026 and relevant Railway regulations.
In a significant action during the drive, railway authorities also seized one trolley containing 35 cartons (420 bottles) of non-approved packaged drinking water from Platform No. 2 of Pune Railway Station. The seizure was carried out as part of the ongoing efforts to ensure availability of only authorized and approved products to railway passengers.
The apprehended offenders are being dealt with as per the provisions of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act and relevant sections of the Railways Act.
Pune Division is continuously conducting such drives to prevent unauthorized vending, safeguard passenger interests, ensure availability of genuine railway-approved products, and maintain cleanliness, safety, and discipline on railway premises.
Passengers are requested to purchase food items, beverages, and packaged drinking water only from authorized railway stalls and vendors and to report any unauthorized vending activities to railway authorities for immediate action.
