Pune, June 25, 2026: A fire broke out in the basement of a commercial-residential building on Laxmi Road in Sadashiv Peth on Thursday morning, prompting a swift response from the Fire Brigade. No injuries were reported in the incident.

According to fire officials, the blaze was reported at around 5:34 am at Soba Arcade, located on Laxmi Road. A team from the Kasba Fire Station rushed to the spot and found the basement engulfed in smoke, making firefighting operations challenging.

Considering the dense smoke inside the basement, firefighters used breathing apparatus (BA) sets and laid a first-aid water line to begin extinguishing the flames. At the same time, residents living in the upper floors of the building were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Additional assistance was sought from the Central Fire Station, following which a fire engine, a rescue vehicle, an Erandwane fire tender, and a water tanker were deployed to the site.

Firefighters traced the source of the blaze and continued water spraying operations until the fire was brought under control.

Preliminary inspection revealed that five two-wheelers, three bicycles, and electrical wiring in the basement were completely damaged in the fire. A shop located in the basement also suffered losses after being affected by the heat and flames. The shop’s shutter, clothing stock, and wooden furniture were damaged.

Senior fire officials, including Vijay Bhilare, Rajesh Jagtap, Pradeep Khedekar, Acting Fire Officer Gaikar, and Fire Officer Chaudhary, were present during the operation.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and further investigation is underway.
