Pune, July 3, 2026: Vehicular traffic on the Varandha Ghat route in Bhor taluka of Pune district was temporarily suspended on Friday after a major landslide blocked the road near Shirgaon.

According to officials, a large section of the hillside collapsed onto the ghat road during the morning hours, leaving the route completely inaccessible to vehicles. Emergency response teams and local authorities reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident to assess the damage and begin restoration work.

Officials said debris removal operations have been initiated and the road will remain closed until the fallen rocks and soil are cleared and the stretch is declared safe for public use.

Motorists have been advised to avoid travelling through Varandha Ghat and use alternate routes until further notice. Authorities have appealed to commuters to follow official traffic advisories and cooperate with the administration during the restoration process.

Officials continue to monitor the situation and are expected to provide updates as the clearance work progresses.

With heavy monsoon rainfall continuing across Maharashtra, the risk of landslides has increased in several hilly regions. The administration has urged travellers to exercise caution while passing through ghat sections, avoid halting at vulnerable locations, stay away from unstable slopes and cliffs, and strictly follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
