Pune: Good News For Pimple Saudagar Residents As Two Busy Junctions P K Chowk And Kalptaru Chowk To Become Signal-Free

Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 4, 2026: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion in the rapidly developing Pimple Saudagar–Pimple Gurav corridor, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has unveiled plans to make the busy PK Chowk and Kalptaru Chowk completely signal-free through the construction of grade separators.

The proposed infrastructure project was presented during a special review meeting attended by MLA Shankar Jagtap and BJP city president Shatrughan Kate, along with senior officials from the civic body’s engineering department.

During the presentation, MLA Jagtap conducted a detailed review of the project’s technical aspects and instructed officials to ensure minimal inconvenience to residents during construction. He also emphasized the need for an efficient stormwater drainage system and precise underground infrastructure design to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon.

The project has been initiated by the PCMC’s Civil Projects Department in response to growing demands from local residents and public representatives. Infraking Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd. has been appointed as the project consultant and presented the detailed design and execution plan.

PK Chowk Grade Separator

Located on the key Wakad–Nashik Phata arterial road and serving as an important access route to Hinjawadi IT Park, PK Chowk experiences heavy traffic throughout the day. The proposed grade separator aims to improve traffic flow and eliminate congestion.

Key features of the project include:

* Installation of a 900 mm diameter stormwater drainage pipeline to prevent waterlogging.

* Construction of a modern sump well with a 30-minute detention capacity.

* Installation of two 5 HP submersible pumps for efficient rainwater management.

* Relocation of water supply and drainage pipelines.

* Installation of modern street lighting.

Expected Benefits

According to the project plan, the signal-free corridor is expected to:

* Significantly reduce traffic congestion at PK Chowk.

* Improve road safety by reducing the risk of accidents.

* Save travel time and fuel by enabling uninterrupted vehicle movement.

* Reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality.

* Provide smoother daily commutes for thousands of IT professionals travelling to Hinjawadi, as well as local residents and students.

Kalptaru Chowk Subway

The proposed subway at Kalptaru Chowk will also transform the junction into a signal-free intersection.

The project is expected to:

* Enable uninterrupted movement between Sudarshan Chowk, Nashik Phata, and Pimple Gurav.

* Improve pedestrian safety and facilitate safer movement for PMPML bus commuters.

* Reduce waiting time at signals, resulting in fuel savings and lower pollution levels.

After reviewing the project, MLA Shankarsheth Jagtap and BJP city president Shatrughan Kate directed the administration to execute the works efficiently while maintaining high construction quality. The project is expected to significantly improve traffic movement and road safety for residents of Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, and surrounding areas.

The presentation was attended by Chief Engineer Pramod Ombase, Executive Engineers Vijay Bhojne and Sandhya Wagh, and Deputy Engineers Rahul Jannu and Nilesh Date, among other officials.
