Pune: PMC Gives Undri RMC Plants Until November 1 To Shut Down; Residents Renew Demand For Autadewadi Lake Restoration

Pune, June 6, 2026 : Representatives of the Undri Townhall Forum met Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram at the PMC office to highlight key civic and environmental issues affecting the Undri area. The meeting was organised by Member of Parliament Supriya Sule.
The delegation, comprising residents from Godrej Prana, Tata Inora Park and surrounding societies, raised concerns over the operation of five Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants located in close proximity to residential areas. They flagged issues of air pollution, potential groundwater contamination, and alleged discharge of waste into Autadewadi Lake.

Representing Godrej Prana, Radiya Gohil, Sanghamitra Karmakar, and L Nanda Kishore highlighted the adverse impact of five Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants operating in close proximity to residential societies.
Residents also expressed concern that these industrial units are situated around 200 metres from Seri International School, posing potential health risks to schoolchildren and nearby residents due to dust and emissions.
PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be examined and appropriate action would be taken as required. He said immediate action would be taken on those plants which do not follow the rules.

Upon his direction, Somnath Bankar, deputy commissioner, PMC visited the area to inspect the sites where these RMC’s are located, to take further action.
Bankar told Pune Pulse that he visited 4 RMC plants in Undri and has asked them all to furnish their operating licenses. Their compliances with the MPCB were also checked. Further step shall be taken after consulting various department heads and Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram.
The Forum further highlighted persistent issues of inadequate water supply, sanitation challenges, and the urgent need for restoration of Autadewadi Lake. In response, the Commissioner informed the delegation that the civic body has initiated steps to procure additional sanitation vehicles and expand manpower to improve cleanliness and waste management services across Pune.
He also assured residents that he would undertake a visit to the Undri area to assess ground realities and work towards feasible solutions.
The Undri Townhall Forum are hoping for timely intervention, particularly regarding the restoration of Autadewadi Lake, which they described as an important ecological zone supporting biodiversity, including migratory birds.
Residents reiterated their demand for strict action against the RMC plants, calling them a continuing threat to public health and the environment. They also urged sustained efforts to revive the lake and strengthen basic civic infrastructure in the locality.
The Forum said the meeting marked a constructive step towards dialogue with the authorities and expressed confidence that coordinated action would help address the long-standing concerns of Undri residents.
